Excerpts from Classic 1973 Brochure By popular demand Columbia Yacht Corporation is proud to offer the Columbia 50 as a standard model. This model should not, however, be confused with the Custom Columbia 50 wherein the owner has the option to design the interior arrangement to his particular requirements, thus giving the flexibility notheretoforeavailable in a fiberglass 50 foot ocean racer. The Standard Columbia 50 is offered in one interior arrangement and with a minimum of equipment. The owner can therefore select only the equipment that he needs to Satisfy has particular requirements without paying for the many custom features that are standard on the Custom Columbia 50. 1. One piece molded hull with color permanently molded in. 2. A recessed molded-in cove strip 'n your choice of colors. 3. One-piece molded deck and trunk cabin with molded-in non-skid surfaces, sandwich construction for strength and lightness. 4. Ballast - 14,600 lbs. lead. 5. A 70 HP Universal Engine with 2:1 reduction gear turning an 18" solid, thin blade sailor prop - on center - no aperture - 60 amp. alternator. 6. Engine room blower. 7. A Monel propeller shaft. 8. Morse shifting and throttle controls. 9. A zinc "Perry" nut on propeller shaft. 10. A laminated fiberglass and foam rudder with Monel rudder shaft. 11. Pedestal steering and a 32" destroyer wheel. 12. Teak cockpit seat hatches. 13. All through-hulls are bronze and are set in flush with hull and have valves on them. 14. A fifty-six gallon fuel tank with shut off valve. Tank located below cabin sole (most advantageous for rating under CCA.) 15. Two fifty-two gallon water tanks located below waterline. 16. Two 105 amp. batteries (one for main engine and the other for the accessories) with selector switch so that either or both batteries may be used for any function. 22. All circuits run to a master panel and are protected by individual circuit breakers, includes battery condition indicator. 23. A satin smooth molded headliner extends throughout the yacht. This not only finishes off the overhead beautifully, but it also provides enough insulating qualities to stop the age old problem of condensation. 24. The interior is finished in the traditional manner by painting out bulkheads in oyster white and trimming them with solid teak. (Natural teak bulkheads are used to close off head compartment.) All doors and drawers are solid teak faced and are of raised paneled construction; this, along with turned spindled sea railings, adds that i ttle tou'ch of beauty appreciated by knowledgable yachtsmen. 25.
